Intramural Research Program
The NIMHD Intramural Research Program (IRP) supports integrative and multidisciplinary research focused on the basic, clinical/translational, and social/behavioral sciences. The IRP research agenda addresses a wide array of health problems that disproportionately affect health disparity populations. Current efforts focus on three disease areas that have significant health disparities: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. IRP researchers are studying the molecular characterization of triple negative breast cancer to develop small molecules for treatments and developing biomarkers for stroke to provide early warning signals. IRP researchers are also investigating the dissemination of public health messages in health disparity populations.
NIMHD Adjunct Faculty - In an effort to establish a peer group within the NIMHD/DIR and promote interactions throughout the Institute, the Office of the Scientific Director implemented an initiative to expand the senior research faculty of DIR through the use of an adjunct investigator appointment mechanism.
