Jeremy Huckleby (2019-2020 MRSP Scholar), a rising fourth-year medical student at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP), was awarded a 1-year residential research fellowship through the 2019-2020 Medical Research Scholars Program. Huckleby is working under the mentorship of Dr. Anna M. Nápoles, Scientific Director of National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, to investigate musculoskeletal health disparities focusing on racial/ethnic differences in physical activity among the adult population with arthritis in the U.S. UICOMP awarded Huckleby ‘The Emerging Leader Award’ for his community engagement through free medical clinics in Illinois, teaching anatomy to local high-school students, and working as a peer educator for anatomy/pathology labs. In addition to service and education, Huckleby is interested in pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery with the goal of reducing health disparities in the field through mentorship, epidemiologic research and intervention.
