Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD)

Program Description

CRECD awards assist eligible institutions in the development and implementation of curriculum-dependent programs to train early-career investigators (postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty) in clinical research. The awards support creative and innovative training and mentored clinical research experiences to promote the development of well-trained clinical researchers who can independently lead clinical and translational research.

Goals

  • Complement and/or enhance the training of the next generation of scientists to meet the nation’s clinical and translational research needs.
  • Develop a group of clinical scientists who have the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue clinical research and can become part of translational and/or patient-oriented research.

Eligibility

The CRECD program supports projects at domestic institutions located in the United States and its territories that:

  • Award doctorate degrees in the health professions or the sciences related to health.
  • Received less than $10 million per year (total costs) in research project grant (R01) support from the NIH averaged over the past three fiscal years.
  • Have a record of educating students underrepresented in biomedical research as defined by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
