Asmi Panigrahi (2018–2019 MRSP Scholar) is a rising fourth-year medical student at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and was awarded a 1-year residential research fellowship at NIH through the 2018–2019 Medical Research Scholars Program. At NIH, she has been pursuing health disparities research with a focus on health behaviors and cardiometabolic health outcomes in minority populations under the mentorship of NIMHD Director Dr. Eliseo J. Pérez-Stable. Since her first year of medical school, she has been a member of the Student Family Health Care Center, a free student-run clinic at NJMS that serves the greater Newark community; as an upperclassman, she was selected to serve as a clinic director. She also served as the co-president of the NJMS Global Health Interest Group and is a member of the NJMS Distinction Program in Global Health. Prior to medical school, Ms. Panigrahi received her undergraduate degree in biology and public health from The College of New Jersey and studied philosophy and evolution as a visiting student at the University of Oxford.
