What are Health Disparities?
Health disparities are largely preventable health differences that adversely affect populations who experience challenges to optimal health and are closely linked with intergenerational social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantages.
NIH-Designated Populations with Health Disparities
Populations designated by NIH as experiencing health disparities include:
- Racial and/or Ethnic Minority Populations
- Low Socioeconomic Status (SES)
- Underserved Rural Populations
- People With Disabilities
- Sexual Minority Groups.
