NIH Guide Number: RFA-MD-18-007

Council Date: February 27, 2018

Objectives

This initiative will support research, education and training opportunities in minority health and health disparities research for individuals from populations experiencing health disparities underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research at domestic institutions and specified foreign regions.

Description of Initiative:

The goals of the MHRT-T37 program are to (1) complement and/or enhance the training of individuals underrepresented within the biomedical, clinical, behavioral and social science research workforce; (2) help recruit diverse individuals with specialty or disciplinary backgrounds to minority health and health disparity research careers. To accomplish these goals, this program will support creative educational activities with a primary focus to provide minority health and health disparities research experiences for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate students, post-doctoral students, residents and fellows at institutions that offer doctorate degrees in the health professions or in health-related science.

Training can take place at domestic sites or sites in targeted LMIC foreign regions that provide significant numbers of immigrants to the U.S., including Latin America (Mexico, Central and South America), the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan and West Africa, and Southeast Asia.
