Mr. Cristian Escalera is a post-baccalaureate research trainee in the NIMHD Intramural Research Program. Under the mentorship of Dr. Anna Nápoles, Mr. Escalera is working on multiple projects related to cancer treatment and survivorship, self-care behaviors, and physician-patient communication among racial and ethnic minority groups. Additionally, Mr. Escalera has research interests in rural health, developmental disabilities, and physical activity.
Mr. Escalera previously served as an AmeriCorps member at Extra Special People, a non-profit organization in Watkinsville, Georgia, dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities. In this position, he focused on recruiting families by executing targeted outreach to schools and communities.
Mr. Escalera holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He is currently in the application process for medical school and plans to become a clinician-researcher dedicated to underserved and minority populations.
