Meet exceptional NIMHD awardees who have achieved recognition in minority health and health disparities research.
President’s Frontier Award (2018) – Johns Hopkins University honors one faculty member each year (2015–2020) with this award, in support of exceptional scholars who are on the cusp of transforming their fields. Dr. Crews received this award for her work to transform the care of disadvantaged populations with chronic kidney disease.
National Indian Health Board (NIHB) Annual Heroes in Health Area/Regional Impact Award (2018) – The NIHB honors individuals or organizations whose work has contributed to improving American Indian/Alaska Native health care or affected change in an area or region. Ms. Blindman with the Ogala Sioux Tribe represented the Collaborative Research Center for American Indian Health Tribal Partners, a regional collaboration to build tribal research infrastructure.
Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat International Prize (2018) – The National Academy of Medicine presents the Sarnat Prize to Dr. Wells for outstanding achievement in mental health and leadership in addressing mental health disparities through a community-partnered participatory approach while fostering a new generation of leaders in mental health services research and practice.
Bronislaw Malinowski Award (2019) – The Society for Applied Anthropology presents this award each year to a senior scholar who has shown a lifetime commitment to understand and serve the needs of societies by using social science.
Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Fellow (2018) –The RCP, founded in 1518, recognizes masters of their health profession as fellows partnering on their mission to improve patient care and reduce illness across the globe. Dr. Mau is one of the first 25 fellows in the U.S.
Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) Community Leadership Award (2018) – The APIAHF awards researchers for excellence in leadership through deep community engagement and innovative solutions to improve the health of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
