NIH Health Disparities Seminar Series
April 2014 Seminar Series
The National Institutes of Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Paula Braveman as the featured speaker for the April 2014 NIH Health Disparities Seminar. The April Seminar presentation will focus on health disparities from a social justice perspective in honor of National Minority Health Month.
During National Minority Health Month, we raise awareness about health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minorities and the nation as a whole. This year's theme, Prevention is Power: Taking Action for Health Equity emphasizes the critical role of prevention in reducing health disparities. By making healthy and safe choices and engaging in healthy and safe behaviors, we can improve our quality of life. But where we live, learn, work and play has an enormous impact on our ability to make healthy decisions. Unless we work to address the differences in health related to these social, economic and environmental factors, we are not going to improve the health and well-being of Americans.
In her presentation, Dr. Paula Braveman will provide an overview of the concept of health disparities and a conceptual framework for thinking about how disparities are created, exacerbated, and perpetuated across lifetimes and generations. (Click here for abstract)
